Terms of use

Last updated on 14 October 2026 (2026-10-14).

Sioul is free software, made and published by Aurélien Pierre. These terms say, in plain words, on what terms you use it: the window, the command line and the phone's app, and this website.

The licence

Sioul is published under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or any later version (GPL-3.0-or-later). You may run it for any purpose, read and study its code, share copies of it, and change it and share your changes, under that licence's conditions: whoever receives a copy, changed or not, receives the same freedoms and the source code. These terms do not change the licence, which is in Sioul's repository: LICENSE. Using Sioul costs nothing and asks for no account.

No warranty

Sioul is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability and of fitness for a particular purpose. You use it at your own risk: keep copies of what matters to you, as you would with any program.

No warranty is given on behalf of the services Sioul connects to either. These terms expressly disclaim all warranties and liability on behalf of Microsoft, and on behalf of Google.

No liability

As far as the law allows, neither the developer of Sioul, nor any company whose services Sioul connects to (Microsoft and Google among them), is liable to you for any damage that comes from using Sioul or from being unable to use it: data lost, mail sent or not sent, a time missed. The licence says the same, in its sections 15 to 17, and governs.

The services you connect

Sioul reaches, from your device and for you, the services you add to it (your mail provider, your calendar server, Google, Microsoft) and the few others you choose (Anthropic's API with your own key, GitHub, Bitwarden, OpenStreetMap, Open-Meteo). Your use of each stays under your own agreement with it: Microsoft's Services Agreement for an Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live or MSN address, your organisation's rules for a work or school address, Google's Terms of Service for a Google account. Sioul does not change those agreements, and none of those companies is a party to these terms.

Sioul's developer is not Microsoft's or Google's agent, and has no partnership with either. Their names are used here only to say which service is meant: Microsoft, Outlook, Hotmail and Microsoft 365 are trademarks of the Microsoft group of companies, and Google and Gmail are trademarks of Google LLC.

A work or school account

An address that belongs to your employer or your school stays under its rules. Your organisation may forbid its mail on a personal device, and decides whether Sioul may read it at all: for Microsoft 365, its administrator approves Sioul once. Sioul keeps such an address's mail away from its AI features unless you open it to them, which you should do only if your organisation allows it.

Your data

What Sioul does with your data, and what it never does: the privacy policy. Sioul has no server: your data stays on your device and in your own accounts.

Changes to these terms

Any change is published on this page, with a new date. The history of this page is public, in Sioul's repository.
